LMGA GARDENS

Welcome to LMGA Gardens — a living showcase of sustainable horticulture, education, and community dedication, located at 4111 University Avenue, Lubbock, Texas, on the grounds of the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum. Developed and maintained by the Lubbock Master Gardener Association (LMGA), these gardens exist through a valued partnership with the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum, supporting shared goals of conservation, education, and public engagement. Together, this collaboration provides accessible learning spaces that benefit the greater Lubbock community and surrounding areas of West Texas.

The LMGA Demonstration Garden, established in 2023 with a grant from High Plains Water District (HPWD), highlights innovative garden design and proven techniques suited for the High Plains climate and also serves as a gathering space for educational programming. The LMGA Berms, Basins & Rain Garden, established in 2024 with a grant from HPWD, focuses on water-wise landscaping, conservation, and stormwater management. In 2024, LMGA was awarded a Helen Jones Foundation grant to fund a greenhouse & shade house, with funds received in 2025. The greenhouse will be used to grow plants for LMGA’s annual plant sale starting in 2026 and may, in the future, serve as an additional space for educational talks and hands-on demonstrations. The Jo Ann Reinhard Cermin Memorial Butterfly Garden, established in 2025, honors a cherished wife & mother while celebrating pollinators, native plant habitats and rainwater conservation. The butterfly garden was made possible through a generous donation from Dr. Ayres Cermin and Family. The rainwater conservation of the butterfly garden was made possible with a grant from the High Plains Water District. In 2024 and 2025, LMGA was awarded grants through the Betenbough Homes Employee Grant Program to enhance both educational programming and visitor experience within the gardens. These funds supported the purchase of a table for talks and demonstrations, benches for seating, and, in 2025, the creation of an accessible pathway system that surrounds the garden beds. Designed to accommodate strollers, older visitors, and individuals with mobility needs, the pathways allow the gardens to be fully seen, experienced, and enjoyed by all. This investment reflects LMGA’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and community-focused horticultural education.

We are honored by the grants & donations that reflect LMGA’s strong commitment to education, sustainability, and community outreach.
